Writing Tips for Job Application Resumes

Aside from a successful interview and supporting credentials, writing a powerful resume is the key to getting the job that you want. A well-crafted resume ensures getting an interview and matters if there should be further evaluations of you and your co-qualifiers. Here are some tips for writing your job application resume.

* Use keywords that are related to the job that you are applying for. You may do this in the headings and titles of your resume. Doing so will make your resume stand out by getting the attention of the employer with just a glance. You can easily identify keywords in job posting and you can actually use equivalent words to send the signal that you are the perfect match for the opening.

* Make designs that are related and display your skills. Creative resumes are allowed in fields where you are required to be also creative. Otherwise, go for a clean layout. Be consistent in your choice of font, which should be attractive but not fancy.

* Quantify your achievements. This means that it is generally better to mention the magnitude of the work that you handled in your previous experiences, which is expected to highlight your abilities. Doing so will create the impression of having solid and verifiable skills.

* Use words that signify action. While adjectives are also good at describing what you can do, using words that connote the past activities you've been doing and the responsibilities assigned to you have more impact. The verbs that you'll use should also match the position that you are targeting.

* Go beyond what the job description is saying. The employers will have needs that are not written in the job posting, but still needed from the future employees. If you really are an expert in the field that you are applying for, you should easily identify these needs and emphasize how you can respond to these needs in your resume.

* Emphasize how your key competencies relate to the job that you want. A job application resume should not only enumerate how competent you are, but also explain how the company would benefit from your knowledge and skills.
